Best Pinterest Marketing Practices for Bloggers in 2022

Many bloggers who have used Pinterest as a source of traffic in the past have noticed that their traffic has dropped dramatically. This isn’t because their content has gotten less interesting. 

Instead, it has a lot to do with how the platform has changed and how Pinners interact with the content they’re searching for. So let’s have a look at what’s changed, and how bloggers can adapt to these changes in 2022!

The Pinterest landscape has changed a lot over the last couple of years and what used to work before does not work anymore.

Back in the day, bloggers had a huge advantage on Pinterest due to the amount of content they created. Pinterest for bloggers was an environment where you could drive traffic to your blog by creating dozens and dozens of pins, sometimes as many as fifty per day. 

But today, that content volume isn’t rewarded like it used to be. You can’t just start a blog, create pins in high volume, pin like there’s no tomorrow, rinse, repeat and expect the same level of traffic. 

Repetitive content, especially when it isn’t sorted into relevant boards, doesn’t see engagement from the users or promotion through the algorithm. 

This might feel overwhelming to somebody who’s only used Pinterest as a digital marketing solution for their blog. But don’t get discouraged! Pinterest is still an amazing way to drive traffic to your main website. 

You just need to be flexible and think creatively about how to attract that traffic and how to run your Pinterest marketing strategy. Blogging still works: You just have to make it work for you.

So how can a blogger reinvent themselves and their content for Pinterest in 2022?

You must accept and embrace The Change

If your traffic has gone down but your content is still the same, you need to take a step back and ask yourself why.

Look at the Pinterest analytics and evaluate what is still giving you the most Pinterest views, link clicks, and saves. You might have had some setbacks, but you’re capable of growth and change. 

Take a deep breath, clear your head, and focus on how you can embrace these changes. Focus on what you can create more of in a manner that pinners will engage the most. 

You must reassess Your Goals

Ask yourself: What are your goals on Pinterest? What do you want to do with your business account? What’s your niche, and who is your ideal audience? What are they using Pinterest to search for? 

Now is a great time to review your keyword research and get some insight into your competitors, niche and audience. Your audience is on Pinterest– you just need to figure out what makes them save and click.

You have to Reframe Your Content

Your Pinterest account gives you access to a whole suite of tools that can be used to market your blog content. One of these tools that bloggers need to get familiar with is the Idea Pin. 

These pins are content-based pins that don’t link through to a website. Even though they don’t actually drive traffic to your website through a direct link, these pins get tons of attention from Pinners, who then click through to your main profile… see your other pins… go to your main website URL… see where this goes? 

By embracing the Idea Pin, bloggers can share their text content and bring people to their websites organically. 

You need to figure out different ways to monetize 

Monetization has also changed. The old technique of ‘post and ghost’ or ‘pin and spin,’ where you make a lot of pins with repeated content, and pin over and over doesn’t work anymore. 

In fact, the Pinterest audience sees it as spammy. Setting up ads on your website alone won’t bring in the revenue since you may not have the same high volume of traffic anymore.

Instead, you need to embrace more organic monetization that doesn’t rely directly on ad revenue. Having more sponsors, using affiliate links, and directing traffic towards products are all ways that you can improve your revenue in today’s Pinterest world.

Embrace Video, Video, and more Video

If you’re not creating video content, you’re making a huge mistake. There are over one billion video views on Pinterest daily, and this number is growing. It truly became a video platform!

 To get started with short-form video content, choose one blog post or come up with an idea. Break it down into bullet points, and then turn those points into short videos. 

And let the audience see your face and hear your voice! When your audience sees and hears you, they feel connected to you… and by extension, your blog or business! This is how you can create with intention and build that human connection that audiences everywhere prefer.
